On Minority Government

As someone who has always been a bit of a regionalist, this election was long in the waiting. I grew up rooting for Reform, or at least I got hooked on the idea of Senate Reform and free votes and the whole notion of a Western party in my teens. I never joined them, but I supported them, especially as they were an underdog. I've since given up on them due to the rise of social conservatism in their platform, and have taken to supporting the Green Party as I think they have the best vision for Canada, or at least the only party thinking 20 years rather than 20 months down the road. I still am hopeful about the possibilities of this minority government, even if I think the next election could really be the most crucial one as it will really be about the vision of Canada.

On Bush's State of the Union 2006

While I don't have a television, CTV has Bush's state of the union. I'm usually fine watching the excerpts, but I was curious to see what the GBJR admins plans on renewable energy. But boy, is this hard to watch real time. Especially, the clap trap. I mean does ""I ask you to renew the patriot act"" actually require a clap.

But I'm sure being there would have a different effect, as the crowd cams they used were all on the left side, and the republicans were all on the right. If the streamcast was in stereo, I might have had a better understanding of who was clapping. However, they did a good job of ensuring that only the clappers made it on film.

On the Danologues

This evening I registered danologue and danolog.com's, and would like to lay claim as a google search indicated only two known usages of danologue.

It actually surprises me when you can still basically invent words that have never been used before, and it shows that we still have plenty of room for creativity, even if its just a spin on monologue.

I'm not sure if I can trademark the ""danologue"", but I'm thinking of putting my work under a creative commons license. I'm not 100% familiar with the use of it, but want to allow my speeches to be shared without restraint. I want to reserve some rights, and am thinking about only allowing the speeches to be spread in their entirety, as to prevent people from taking portions of it out of context.

On this blog's original intention

This is the beginning of a little experiment in the history of the web and an adventure that I have been looking to embark on. I, Dan Grice, will venture into the world of communication with a series of media rich postings. For anyone such as myself who has abandoned the mainstream media and prefers the world of independent content rich sites, you will understand my frustration with finding enough quality sources of news and opinion. There are plenty of blogs out there and news sites, but in order to enjoy them you have usually been limited to reading excessive amounts of text. As soon as I nail down my video workflow, I hope to change this by broadcasting a bit of myself. It will probably begin with some preset speeches and existing comment, but hopefully I will get a regular commentary on politics, art, technology, society, and any other topic that hits my mind.
